My scientific background emerges :) Tech talk.
So THIS is the molecular structure of curcumin.
Curcumin or the main component of turmeric has been widely studied in laboratories around the world. It’s benefits are huge and mainly the following
neuro-protective (the brain!)
Because of its chemical structure, curcumin binds free radicals in the body and therefore combats oxidative stress which is always prominent in the body but which can trigger cancer and inflammatory diseases.
The curcumin molecule also down-regulates inflammatory pathways in the body. Inflammation deregulation is closely linked to and a result of oxidative stress (aka the benefits of its antioxidant properties)
Diseases such as Alzheimers and Parkinson’s, as well as general cognitive decline have been studies in order to understand the benefits of the therapeutic usage of curcumin. Neuro inflammation or inflammation in the brain is also modulated through the actions of this beautiful and wonderful component in turmeric.
Its absorption is poor because it is not soluble in water however black pepper, or rather piperine which is the main component of black pepper, increases the absorption by 2000x. Tumeric can also be absorbed better if ingested with oily foods.
Bottom line? Get turmeric into your diet. At least 1 tbsp daily.
Just be careful! It will stain everything !!
